AC & Cooling
This could be caused by several issues: low refrigerant, a dirty air filter, a frozen evaporator coil, or a malfunctioning compressor. We recommend calling us for a professional diagnosis.
We recommend changing your air filter every 1-3 months, depending on factors like pets, allergies, and how often you run your system. A dirty filter reduces efficiency and can damage your equipment.
Unusual noises can indicate various problems: squealing may mean a belt issue, grinding could be a motor problem, and rattling might be loose components. It's best to have a technician inspect it before it becomes a bigger issue.
With proper maintenance, a central air conditioning system typically lasts 15-20 years. Regular tune-ups help extend the life of your equipment and keep it running efficiently.
Heating
Common causes include a dirty filter, thermostat issues, pilot light problems (gas furnaces), or a malfunctioning blower motor. Some issues are simple fixes, but others require professional attention.
We recommend having your heating system inspected and tuned up annually, ideally in the fall before the heating season begins. This helps prevent breakdowns and ensures safe operation.
A furnace generates heat by burning fuel (gas) or using electric resistance. A heat pump moves heat from outside to inside (and can reverse for cooling). Heat pumps are more energy-efficient in moderate climates like Middle Tennessee.
Heat pumps may run longer than furnaces because they heat more gradually. However, if it runs nonstop and your home isn't reaching temperature, there could be an issue that needs attention.
Maintenance & Efficiency
Our tune-ups include inspecting all components, cleaning coils and burners, checking refrigerant levels, testing electrical connections, lubricating moving parts, and ensuring safe operation.
Regular maintenance, changing filters, sealing duct leaks, using a programmable thermostat, and ensuring proper insulation can all help reduce energy costs. Upgrading to a high-efficiency system is also an option.
Higher SEER ratings mean better efficiency. The minimum is now 14 SEER, but we often recommend 16 SEER or higher for optimal efficiency and long-term savings in Middle Tennessee's climate.
Consider replacement if your system is over 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, uses R-22 refrigerant (being phased out), or if repair costs exceed 50% of a new system's cost.
